XBox One - Setup
« on: 22 December 2015, 11:31: AM »
Right,

Got the lad an XBox One for Christmas.  Opened it up, set it up, performed an update and downloaded FIFA 16.
Is there anything else I need to do or setup? Xbox Live? Is that needed for FIFA and Minecraft?

I have set it all up under my MS account, so I need to look into how I can set him up on it too as a user.  But that can be done after Christmas.

For online play you need an xbox live subscription, and if I remember correctly (been a while since I owned an xbox) the live membership is per account not per console.

Apart from that looks like you've done all that's required to be able to give him a whooping on fifa on xmas day :)

Xbox Live Gold is needed for online multiplayer.

The RRP is £40 per year, but you can get it much cheaper from e.g. CDKeys.com

http://www.cdkeys.com/xbox-live/memberships

With Xbox One, Gold membership is effectively per console rather than per account, as the main Gold account on the console can choose to "share Gold" with any other accounts on it. No more need for everyone on the console to have Gold like with the 360.

I'd also recommend EA Access:

http://www.ea.com/eaaccess/en_GB.html

http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/entertainment/xbox-one/live-apps/ea-access

For £19.99 per year, you get:

- Unlimited access (while a subscriber) to Battlefield 4, Titanfall, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Battlefield Hardline, and a variety of other EA games in "The Vault", with more added as time goes on.

- 10% discount on all EA digital downloads for Xbox One.

- Time-limited early access to all EA games on Xbox One, e.g. EA Access members got to play Star Wars Battlefront before anyone else.

Ta.  Might go for that later when we're sorted  TBH it'll be me who plays those as he's more interetsed in FIFA and Minecraft.

I have a MS account for me and him (I already had one), and I have an EA account (Origin), but I think he needs one for Origin to be able to play FIFA.

Plus I had to setup a new iTunes account for him under Family sharing :-/

Damn this is all complicated.  Wasn't like this when I was 8 :-(
