held a smaller LAN party over the last couple of days. Unfortunately only 10 of us could attend, including a visit from long lost Punky on the Saturday. As it had been such a long while since our last party, and getting a larger number of us together was proving impossible, we did our best.
The venue was MovedGoalPosts' building site of a house. We suspect many of those coming hadn't really thought what this could mean, but one look at the gaping hole in the front bedroom where there was once a chimney breast confirmed their worst fears! MGP had been sweating over the preceding few weeks trying to make the best of a bad job. Even so the first arrivals on the Friday afternoon found themselves indulging in some heavy lifting as the ground floor was emptied of detrius.
Our gaming was rather casual, much to the annoyance of some who couldn't make it and were hoping to join in remotely. It wasn't helped by Battlelog maintenance which took that down for much of Saturday afternoon. Still that gave us an opportunity to revisit CoD 4 with the Galactic Warfare (Star Wars theme) mod by blackmonkeys.de proving quite popular. Many of us also took the chance to try out the first version of Stormpr00ter's "Mostly Harmless" Elite like Freelancer mod. Of course the kiddies Alex and Thannis seemed to prefer Minecraft and a few other weird things.
Disappointingly for a [NTHW]
Lan, nobody seemed to be pulling the innards out of their computer. The closest was Stu trying to get his shiny half hour old 27" monitor to display to the full area of the screen, and Ramrod did have a few headaches getting CoD4 to work on Alex's PC.
Catering was kept simple. The Chinese takeaway boosted their takings on the Friday evening, A Tesco's breakfast fitted the bil on Saturday morning. Saturday evening saw is dodging the showers with a real man's BBQ (sausages, burgers and buns - not a green leaf in sight). Finally a fry up settled stomachs before Sunday's departure. And for interim snacks we were rather overwhelmed with cakes made by Gottu's soon to be other half, Heidi.
All in all it was a nice, mellow, LAN party. But it would be good to get a larger group together next time?
