And in an ideal world we would boycott the game. It isn't an ideal world. We don't want to change, but are presented with little choice. Personally I am one of the few who has made the most noise about this sorry state of affairs on the internet as a whole - numerous posts on Battlelog, IGN, Procon, pbans, and whose text was copied to make up the change.org petition. I don't like it, want to stay with our current GSP but find myself backed into a corner presented with a simple take it or leave it choice. And that leave it is probably not an option as I enjoy (in some perverse way) multiplayer FPS gaming but as yet don't see any alternative game that would appeal to myself, and the rest of our community. And yes EA/DICE are banking on this scenario of punters having no real choice and jumping in like a flock of sheep.
Having our own server does give us a proper say in the gametype, map, server settings, etc. Inevitably as a group you can arrive on an empty server, but once players are on others will join. That's not a problem if they want to play the game, but if they don't want to, that's when having some admin rights is beneficial.
Even so, no decision has been made on what if any server we will be running for BF4. Equally it is also apparent that once BF4 exists there will be less use of our current servers (although the extent of that is as yet unclear), so there will probably be little point in keeping it. In due course a decision will have to be made, on what we do and don't want. but it's still to premature to do that.
