TS3 Performance (Fragnet)
« on: 26 November 2013, 10:41: PM »
There are some concerns over performance with possible lag, dropouts and such like.  If you get these issues, and see there is a poor ping, please run and posts a tracert to aid diagnosis.

Well I know my bad TS was due to my current situation.  When I was in game my ping was over 800 so I doubt TS would do much better than it did.

Also remember to test pings and do traceroutes from an external provider to eliminate you own connection as a possible problem.
This can be done from various sites like http://network-tools.com/ - this particular one runs out of the US, I have always found it useful in such situations.

But if many users are seeing an issue, and complaining (if they can be heard) in TS, then it's not an individual local client issue.

I've raised this request for tracerts as the response I've had to a support ticket says that the server was operating OK, and the provider, with their own tests can't see an issue, at the time they tested.  If we have a problem, evidence at the time of the problem, is now required.  That may mean some of you dropping out of the game to run the tracert, at the times you see your TS3 performance drop and TS3 pings rise.

True, and my suggestion was to do 'in addition', not 'instead of' a local ping & tracert. If ping & tracert can be shown to highlight the problem from a third party as well as a your own local results, it adds weight to the evidence, and you cannot be brushed off with "the server is fine" type responses.

Not hard at all - I've got a local one set up for my son & myself. The permissions model can be tricky for more advanced stuff, but other than that ... quite simple really.

Fragnet are based in Sweden so their IPs are registered to them there but they reallocate them to their data centres across the world.  I am assured the TS server. like our BF4 servers is in the UK.

As for running a TS server, the basic software isn't the issue, but permission settings are more interesting.  The challenge is one of bandwidth.  The more people on it, the greater the bandwidth needed.  But it shouldn't be rocket science and I suspect looking at the tracert, they simply haven't got enough network capacity into the server for us and all the others also on the same server (we only get a part of it).

The domain name server is probably in Sweden, and the reason why that trace flagged up as that.

Right essentially Fragnet after almost a fortnight are now saying the problem is starting in the ISP network.  Please post tracerts in this thread from anyone not on Virgin Media so I can demonstrate this is a Fragnet issue.
