Thanks Rammy, but that doesn't show a problem.

Please take and post tracerts when the TS3 perfomance has failed.  That is clearly at the peak hours which seem to be around 8:00pm to 9:30pm

When you post your tracert, please confirm the time and date it was taken.

Yep, daleks again last night. It's seemed to start going when there were 10 of us on TS (and at peak time 8-9PM).

There is not much point in me posting trace routes as my connection is not all that good anyway, but I would suggest the issue is bandwidth on the server side rather than raw latency (I know the two are related), but I can get pings in the same range as everyone else, even though my internet connection downstream is only 6Mb/s - that's because a ping/echo (and trace route) uses very little data, and is only really any use for testing connections between individual hops, and usually for testing your own connection to the next upstream device.

I noticed on Viper's traceroute above, the ping was jumping up from a reasonable value to 100+ when hitting the TS server, but again even a ping of 100-125 would not really cause the issues we were getting.

I think it's something else - probably software related, or machine specific performance (CPU/RAM) on the TS server. Getting Fragnet to sort it is a different proposition.
I'm assuming it's a shared server? If so, do we know how many instances of TS are running on it? Are the instances throttled in any way (CPU/RAM/Network)? I guess my point is that the problem is not on the client side, therefore, must be on the server side.

As a parallel, we have a SQL Server machine here which plays up. You can ping it and get <10ms, yet when you try to run a query it runs as slow as loading an old ZX81 game off cassette tape. The specific issue with this is that it goes off and eats up RAM during usage and doesn't give it back. I am suggesting there is an issue with the TS server of a similar stamp - something on that machine is causing a problem (other than connectivity), my number one suspect is the number of TS instances running chewing up CPU and RAM (and probably thrashing the disk as well). I may well be wrong though.

To be fair the actual game server appears to be running fine, with the latest patches etc on it but the Teamspeak however is it abit poor.

I will be sorting out my server at some point this week so, I may have to install Teamspeak on it and see how it performs.

Either way none of the server providers available seem to be as good as gaming Deluxe.

I don't think anyone here was pleased about having to change providers. But the will of the clan was to play BF4 with our own servers, which meant we had to change the game servers to Fragnet. And as Damien says, apart from having to apply patches (which would happen with any GSP), the game servers are running fine. TS is being a bit annoying though...

TS3 with Fragnet will be part of a shared server, hence the weird port number used for connection.  The tracerts generally show the problems are within the Fragnet network, the last hop to the server.  Given ping type traffic is usually least prioritised, this isn't the full picture.  What we aren't seeing is how many packets are getting dropped in or out of the server.

There are two potential issues:
1)  The network bandwidth is insufficient
2)  The server itself isn't man enough.

We don't know the specs of the server box, the number of virtual TS3 servers being run on it (or if that is all it is doing), number of players being served or even the network connection.

What I do know is that, as feared, Fragnet's support is mostly of the call centre type.  They do respond fairly promptly, but it's anonymous.  Different people are answering and they clearly want to move onto the next ticket.  So there doesn't appear ownership of issues.  That's fine for simple stuff where a setting somewhere just needs to be cleared, but for longer in depth issues you need someone in charge.  Gaming Deluxe, whilst a lot smaller and thus only had a few people who dealt with support, both got to know you as a customer and moreover you could almost have a dialogue with them though the support tickets if something needed a more in depth probe.  So yes our BF4 servers with Fragnet are largely OK so far (problems are more with DICE coding), but if I could revert to Gaming Deluxe, I would.

I suppose it is an option to change provider for TS, but I am assuming that would mean a significant increase in costs?

Remember please post the times you take the tracerts, and we really need these from VM and particularly non VM users.

have made a batch file to simplify this, details follow :

create a text file, and enter this quoted text

Quote
time /t >> c:\fragnet_ts.txt
date /t >> c:\fragnet_ts.txt
tracert eu1.fragnet.net >> c:\fragnet_ts.txt
time /t >> c:\fragnet_ts.txt
date /t >> c:\fragnet_ts.txt
tracert 185.16.85.83 >> c:\fragnet_ts.txt

save the text file, then change the .txt extension to .bat
run the bat file, and when the command prompt window disappears you will have a 'fragnet_ts.txt' text file on the root of your c drive
this will contain the tracert info for both the ip's with time & dates.
You can then open and copy/paste the contents here. Saves having to mark/select from the cmd window :tu:

edit each time you run the batch file, it adds to the fragnet_ts.txt text file, so I suggest deleting the text file after you've posted the contents each time :)
