Title: Christmas Already?
Post by: Stormpr00ter on 01 December 2014, 04:03: PM
Christmas already - shame on you MGP, it's far too early.... bah humbug and all that.  :td:

1st December = advent.  My limited understanding of religion is that is the proper lead in to Christmas.

Of course whether NTHW wants a Christmas theme is another matter.  Usually I try to think of the clan as a democracy.  But sometimes it's necessary to impose my will.  Plus I was bored :D

And everyone has the ability to select their own theme if they don't like it : Profile > Look and Layout.

It's all good work :tu: - one thing tho and I know i'm being a pedantic arse but can we have the little 'collapse' box buttons back? so I can hide the bits I don't look at.

Yesterday was indeed Advent - but Natalie has insisted on having our stuff up two weeks already :(

That was clashing with the snow image.  I'll see if there is a way to improve this.

The (selfish) main reason is my screen reader is reading out the vote ;) - still it's not all that important :)

edit - I see you sorted it already - cheers dude :tu: :)

There is an easy fix for that one Dilli - only clan members see that bit, so if you weren't in the clan  :P

It's nice to see appreciation from everyone

It could have been far worse.  I could have imported some of the themes that are on the net.  Instead I tried to be a bit more subtle.  Perhaps I should keep tweaking and seek some enhancements  8)

It's fine MGP, I just dislike the way Christmas is hyped up and by default I grump at stuff to do with it.
I particulalry hate the advertising on TV, which all goes along the lines of:
"Buy your crap with us, or your Christmas will be a disaster" - or at least that's the underlying pschological message they are putting over.

Did you add a bit more christmas bling to the top of the page today MGP - or have I only just noticed it?

Possibly a better snow gif?

I think speed is the key.  Too fast and it's distracting to the eyes.  I also think it can't be too busy in terms of the amount of stuff that is moving.  The effect needs to be sparingly used.  Your latest one also has a noticeable jump in the sequence which would be very off putting.

Whilst you may think yourself lucky, it would be useful to know what browser and browser version us use in case something more critical doesn't work?

The majority of stuff being done here should be standard to modern browsers of normal html type code and images, without needing to run added software such as java.

Some very clever users may attempt to impose their own browser style overrides, for which we can accept no responsibility for the consequences, not that we accept responsibility even if things work as intended :D

I stand by that comment. But I have moved from the default position as we are actually poking a bit of fun at the way things get hyped up. That is satire, so therefore fine in my book :D

Your snow works fine - I just have my browser text zoomed in so i can't see it down the edge ;)

But this is great, some sites I go on have a fixed width and I can't do that which is very irritating.
