Title: NAND laptop SSD reader?
Post by: Ramrod on 13 February 2018, 01:07: PM
I need to plug one of these (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/crucial-mx300-275gb-ssd-m2-2280-6gbps-3d-nand-solid-state-drive-ct275mx300ssd4-hd-066-cr.html) (or one very like this) into a reader, attach it to a PC or laptop and drag a load of files off it. I've looked around for a bit of kit that would do the job but can't find anything. Any suggestions as to what I can use?

From a Google search

You can only use a MSata card / SSD on a mobo thats got the slot for it. You would have to buy a mobo with a Msata slot on it, or one thats got the new m.2 slot.

There must be a way to attach one of these SSDs to a mobo. SATA adaptor or summat. Cheers Bop. I'll keep looking :)

This is what you need.

Screw the M.2 SSD on to it and then slot it in your motherboard.

Ideally you need to make sure that it's a M.2 and not a NVME drive as that will need a different adaptor, so google the model number and see whether it's M.2 or NVME, and then you can look for an adaptor but the one linked above is basically the same for either M.2 or NVME it's just they are slightly different.

Or there is a USB adapter https://www.overclockers.co.uk/silverstone-usb-3.1-m.2-enclosure-sst-ms09c-charcoal-hd-012-sv.html

That doesn't look like it would take one of these:

It's ironic that Samsung are using a Toshiba SSD in one of their high end ultrabooks  ;D

From the link you originally provided, for a M.2 2280 format drive it would work.  The photo of the Toshiba also shows an M.2 drive but it's not obvious from a very quck google on that product number what the Toshiba format (2280 or what) the Toshiba is.  But if Damien's link would work then so would my USB thing, and equally if one won't work neither would.

Lol. That's what I thought. Irritating that google doesn't provide a match of that SSD  >:(

It's a 2280 M.2 SSD, the adaptor that MGP should work with it, if you don't want to buy a PCI-E to M.2 adaptor.
