Wow.........good post/rant  :o :notworthy: ;D

Seconded.

The way I see it, there is a conflict between the intended game play experience that DICE envision, and the desired game play experience of those paying for, and running servers.

Ultimately, if you are paying for a server, then you want a big say in how the game play goes - in terms of length of match, game mode, hardcore, map rotation and so on. To me this is all perfectly acceptable

Where this kind of authority crosses the line for me is:
1. Where players are kicked/banned for no reason other then they are dominating the matches (like Damien often does)
2. Adopting game play styles that those running the server don't like (camping)
3. Using weapons that are disliked (I've come across instances of kicking for using a grenade - wtf?)

Also, we have had heated discussions about parachuting in, on top of 'inaccessible' buildings, as being 'unfair'.

I think it is these kinds of things that EA/DICE are attempting to eliminate or at least reduce.

For me, with the exception of real 'glitching', if it's in the game, and you can do it in the game, it should be allowed - I think EA/DICE are of a similar opinion.

I disagree with their approach though.

Someone set up an online petition (not that I think EA/DICE would actually pay much attention to it), but it's got to be worth signing:

Oddly the words seem somewhat familiar

Hi Gaming Fans,

I writing to inform you of the recent news GamingDeluxe has received with regard to hosting BF4, which is due for release in 7 weeks.

Electronic arts in their infinite wisdom have decided to trim their RSP list for the game to a very fine list. Consequently this means we have not been included on the list, and will not be able to host BF4 for you. The facts of our hosting of previous BF games speaks volumes. GamingDeluxe currently host 170 UK servers and gametracker has a total of 350 listed, therefore we are hosting half of the UK BF3 servers and yet we have been left out of EA's core list. This means you will be required to find another host if you are looking to get a BF4 server. EA are yet to release a list of these providors so sorry we cant shed any light on that question.
A large group are trying to get EA to hold off on this decision and try and get the independent GSP's back onto the list, please take 5 minutes of your time to visit this site and sign the petition and also post this link to this on your forums so your clan mates can sign also.

basically just echoing what we already know. the petition doesn't seem to have much momentum or has stalled a little - a bit concerning considering how many people directly or indirectly will be affected by this stance from ea.

And all because of a few badmins, and the legion of whinging whining no-clue c*cksuckers who do not contribute to servers, other than to pollute them with their unpleasant ungrateful ignorant presence.

I guess we have to wait for the official GSP list now, and then decide how to proceed?

Isn't it only really gaming clans that will be that bothered about it?

Initially, yes. Depending on how the selected GSPs actually manage to perform and provide a decent level of service (which most fear will be rubbish), then the other  non-clan gamers will start to be bothered about it when they can't get on a server with a decent ping, or there may be a lack of servers so just finding a game with an open slot may take a very long time.

Yes, and only a proportion of them too.  It's probably compounded by many clans operating more than one server, as we do, via the cheaper hosting providers that offer deals on the dedicated server boxes.  We could never afford all our game servers if we had to use one of the big boys and rent each game individually.  That reduces the overall numbers of people involved.

The vast majority of players simply switch on their computer and expect to connect and play.  Even within many gaming clans, members are often isolated from the server procurement and administration processes.  They probably don't realise, or care where the server is, they might not even contribute to it, or have any say in what is running on it.

With any issue, there will only ever be a small proportion of people prepared to stand up and say something about it.  Many might come across information on something, but will stay silent and do nothing.  But then the lack of any engagement from EA/DICE doesn't inspire anyone to add their voice to the clamour for change.

Even on Battlelog's forums, to which every Battlefield player has access, it's noticeable that only a couple of our clan have joined any discussion on the GSP changes, but then a mass of people from a single clan, doesn't make a protest.  I think though most have signed the petition.

Unfortunately, so far on places like Battlelog, the number of people who historically complain about "badmins" of servers, server rules and restrictions on weapons, and such like issues, greatly exceeds the voice of server renters.  Whilst the renters remain in the minority it is unfortunately difficult to see EA/DICE paying much attention.

So according to pbbans There are five confirmed providers:

    NFO Servers
    I3D Servers
    Multiplay
    Gamed.de
    Gameservers

So for the UK, we get a "choice" of Multiplay, Gameservers, and I3D Servers who have hosting presence in the UK.  Of those, I3D look like a webhosting company that has game servers on the side which doesn't inspire confidence of any specialism, and also as they price in euros there will be currency exchange costs.  Gameservers messed up the CoD Black Ops monopoly, so that leaves multiplay who were just very average when we used them briefly before we found GamingDeluxe.

I'm rather underwhelmed at the moment :(

NB list is speculation and is subject to confirmation, and just might get some addition?

This makes my decision not to buy, more and more sensible!

3 rather low end and pathetically crap GSP's are chosen over 1 really good GSP.

Screw you EA/Dice!

Working with the tools at hand...

Multiplay looks the best of a bad bunch,

Based on BF3 costs we have the following:

32 Slot BF3 + 30 Slot TS - 3 month pre-pay - £91.80 - £30.64 p/m
Additional 32 Slot BF3 - 3 Month pre-pay  - £84.00 - £28.00 p/m each
Forum hosting ?

Forum hosting still a question mark, but someone (MGP) can probably find cheap hosting for a couple of quid a month.

We can probably expect at least a 25% hike in price for BF4, and a right royal pain in the arse for MGP to get everything set up.

Fingers crossed EA/DICE see sense and add GamingDeluxe

We need:
Game server(s)
Website
Teamspeak
Procon (rcon) layer host.

Until such time as there is full confirmation of the GSPs, and their pricing, I'm not going to worry about where or what we go to, or what we even decide we want.  That will be a separate discussion and separate thread somewhere.  What is clear is that we will not be able to do anywhere near as much as at present, assuming that as a clan we even decide we do want to be involved with BF4.

This thread is primarily to express, publicly, the pain in the backside that restricting the GSPs for BF4 is causing.
